라이프벳 Chemical rolled up its sleeves for education and environmental protection in Cilegon, Indonesia, where a large-scale petrochemical complex is being built. On the afternoon of the 30th at Cilegon City Hall in Indonesia , 라이프벳 Chemical Indonesia (LCI) CEO Yim Dong Hee, 라이프벳 Chemical Communications Division Head Choi Young Kwang, and Cilegon City Mayor Helldy Agustian signed a MOU pursuant to which 라이프벳 Chemical will support the city’s education infrastructure as well as strengthen its resource virtuous cycle. This is 라이프벳 Chemical's first corporate social responsibility (CSR) project with an overseas local government. Through this MOU, 라이프벳 Chemical will cooperate with the city to establish a high-quality education environment in the field of science/environment for schools in Cilegon. 라이프벳 Chemical will provide equipment and tools for elementary schools and build a better educational environment by developing new educational contents for middle schools. It also plans to develop specialized programs in the field of science/environment for university students by providing an expert mentoring program. In addition, efforts such as installing facilities for environmental protection and developing resident participation programs, will be conducted to strengthen the city’s resource virtuous cycle system and promoting local community’s environmental awareness. 라이프벳 Chemical President & CEO Kim Gyo Hyun said “라이프벳 Chemical is carrying out a large-scale project with high growth potential in Indonesia. Starting with this social contribution MOU with Cilegon City, Indonesia, we will continue to expand corporate social responsibility not only in Korea but also in overseas communities.” 라이프벳 Chemical is actively engaged in CSR activities at its overseas business sites, focusing on the three themes of environment, women/children, and local community. Under the theme of environment, it supported the agricultural water supply in Indonesia. In Malaysia, it sponsored early breast cancer diagnosis for low-income women. In Hungary, they also participated in improving fire station facilities for community safety. In addition, it operates internships for about 10 Indonesian students every month to develop local communities, providing opportunities for students to study safety, health, and the environment while working in the company. Meanwhile, 라이프벳 Chemical is promoting the "LINE Project," a large-scale petrochemical complex development project, with a goal of commercial production in 2025 by investing a total project cost of $3.9 billion in Indonesia. The EPC (Engineering·Procurement·Construction) company selection was completed in January 2022, and construction is currently underway. It is expected to produce petrochemical products such as 1 million tons of ethylene (EL), 520,000 tons of propylene (PL), and 250,000 tons of polypropylene (PP) annually. Not only securing cost competitiveness by producing ethylene based on naphtha and LPG, which are raw materials of the ethylene plant, but also strengthening its position in the Southeast Asian market by entering the Indonesian petrochemical market, which is an importer of PE / PP products and has high growth potential, and expected to complete the vertical integration of Indonesia's existing PE plants.
